NorthDakota Drivers Education

If you are 14 or 15 years old and
a legal resident of North Dakota, you may receive a permit to operate your
parent or guardian’s car. You must present a driver education completion
certificate in order to do this by completing 30 hours of classroom instruction
with 6 of those hours being behind the wheel time. While you are taking the
driver education course, you need not have a permit to drive, and if you are
under the age of 18, you must hold a permit for a minimum of 6 months before you
can be licensed to drive.
Instruction permits may be ontained at age 14, provided you have sponsorship of a legal guardian or parent, you are enrolled in a driver education permit and you have presented the required proof of identity. While you have your permit, you may operate with a person who has held their license for 3 years and is over the age of 18. You msut also pass a written test as well as an eye test. You must operate on the permit for a minimum of six months before applying for your license, and it may be held for up to one year, you must complete a drivers education class if you are under the age of 16, and then you can apply for a restricted license. If you should be assessed 6 or more points on your license (and you are under 18) or you are found guilty of an acohol related offense, your license (or your permit) may be suspended which would result in your having to start all over again from the beginning of the permit process.
Before applying for your permit you would be served well to read the North Dakota Department of Transportations Rules of the Road.
